Candle Dressing
All candles should be dressed before burning. Dip your fingers in the oil of your choosing or rub some onto your hands. Take the candle and, starting from the center, rub the oil towards the top of the candle. Rub only in one direction, not back and forth. When the top half of the candle is covered, start from the center and oil the bottom half in the same manner.
This is a very important part of candle burning. While you are dressing your candle, concentrate on the purpose you have in mind. Visualize the final outcome as clearly as possible. Pour as much love and emotion into it as you can.
The burning of incense in religious ceremonies is an ancient custom and is used by many people. It was believed that the sweet smelling odors were pleasing to the Gods and offensive to the evil spirits. It was also believed that the smoke carried the prayers and wishes of those using it to the Gods and spirits they were calling upon for help.
I recommend using some kind of incense while burning your candles. It helps one attain the right atmosphere and state of mind for meditating upon the results one wishes to achieve in candle magick.
