Types Of Meditation
There are 8 classic types.
Awareness: Brings the mind in touch with the body. You have feet but are you aware of them? You have breath but are you aware of it? You actually become aware of your feet touching the floor or how it feels to walk. You concentrate on your breath. How it tickles your nose when you exhale.

Contemplation: Have you ever noticed the wonder of a child, the miracle of a sunset, the true meaning of a poem or the expanse of the universe? Then you have practiced contemplation meditation. Contemplation asks you to look and let the thing show itself to you.

Mantra: This is the discipline of repeating a word or phrase over and over to find inner peace. Ex. Om Ma Da Pa De Ohm

Mindfulness, Realization or Transcendental: The art of being awake and aware. It's the concept of doing what you are doing when you are doing it. You should do one activity at a time. Doing two or three tasks at a time is draining. Most of us consider doing two or three tasks at a time an achievement. Not so. This meditation will focus you on the one activity at hand thus full efficiency.

Movement: Meditation with movement. It is practiced by a rock climber, a dancer or a martial artist. Whenever we express ourselves with movement we are meditating.

Reflective: Also known as rational meditation. You try to make sense or find meaning in something. Decision making, social therapy, studying and literary analysis are all examples of this meditation.

Sounding or Chanting: This type of meditation is practiced by most religions and cultures.

Visualization: You will get exactly what you expect to get. Between willpower and imagination, imagination will triumph. Try to see yourself doing what you want to do. Be specific. It's like a self - fulfilled prophecy.
