Candle Types & Styles
The size and shape of the candle is not important. Choose any candle which seems appropriate to you for the purpose you have in mind. The color is the most important thing to consider when buying your candles.
There are three major types of candles used in candle magick. The first is the Altar Candles. These should be white and two of them should be burned along with the other candles. They can be any shape, the two most popular being tall, stately tapers and those in the shape of a cross. These candles are traditionally used during any ritual but are not absolutely necessary. Candles can be burned for any purpose without the use of Altar candles, if you wish.
The second type is the Astral Candles. These are used to represent the person who is burning the candles, or the person for whom the candles are being burned.
The third type is the Offeratory Candles. These are the candles which represent the reason for the ritual, that is the result you wish to achieve.
Choose a candle to represent the person for whom the spell is being done. If you know their sun sign, use the color which symbolizes that sign. Otherwise, use a plain white candle. While dressing the candle, picture the person in your mind. The name, whether it be your own or someone else's, can be carved into the candle, starting at the top and writing down.

Candle Styles

Traditional; These candles are similar to dinner tapers, but have straight sides and a fluted base. Nearly as common as dinner tapers, but slightly more expensive. Colors are generally solid to the wick.

Household Candles; Small and inexpensive straight sided candles, 4 to 6 inches long. Colors are solid, but limited range available. White is the most common and least expensive.

Pillar Candles; These large, solid color candles come in many sizes and shapes. Some of the largest sizes have multiple wicks. Many are scented. Moderate to expensive.

BeesWax & Blends; These candles are easily available but are costly. 100% beeswax candles have a warm golden color and smooth, sweet natural scent. They are among the most expensive. They are available in many styles and sizes, from rolled honeycomb sheets to mammoth cathedral candles. Some colors are available, especially in the rolled style. Beeswax blend candles are less expensive.

Container Candles; Many sizes available in these jar style candles. For magickal use, one in a clear glass container is best. With the color in the wax itself.

Magickal Candle Use; Using candles magickally can be as simple as lighting the candles on your dinner table, to an elaborate ritual involving many candles. To prepare candles first; remove all labels, tape, and other sticky stuff. Trim wick to about 1/4 inch or a little longer. With the correct instument , mark or write on your candle words, symbols, or whatever symbolizes your need. Anoint with the correct oil by placing 3 drops on top of the candle. Empower the candle. Then light it.
